I am the Corporate Social Responsibility 'CSR' coordinator for BHSF. I have a nice flat and a secure job. Things were not always like that.
In 2006 after a bad break up with the father of my daughter I ended up losing the flat that I lived in and my job. All I had was an old Vauxhall Astra and a boyfriend who was in a similar situation and who later revealed himself to be a con artist.
We went from sleeping on his friends floors to stopping in a B& B up in Lancashire.
We were in a vicious circle – we couldn’t save up for a deposit on a flat because we had to pay for the B&B. We were working in a meat factory and with no fixed address that didn't last long.
Although my daughter was living with her dad - I could never have her stopping with me overnight which really upset me.
Also living hand to mouth - getting a meal for two for 68p (it can be done).
The stigma of NFA, nowhere for my documents to go, - my car insurance was cancelled and I didn't know!
I bit the bullet and had to admit defeat and return to Birmingham as there were no job opportunities in Lincolnshire.
Luckilly my parent were able to help me and i got a job within weeks, all because I had an address.
Now I am independent and my daughter has her own room in my flat and stays regularly.
