Waterstones New Street store held a Bake Sale in aid
of St Basils on 8th September 2012
A number of individuals have taken part in this year’s event including two children; Louisa Kenny and Josie Armstrong both aged 9 from Alvechurch who raised £300 through ‘a number of cake sales to family, on the drive, at Louisa’s father’s work and at their school’, Louisa’s mum, Joanna Kenny said. She added: “They both picked up on the idea immediately and were very good at doing a lot of the baking and decorating of cakes themselves”.

Greggs supported our Bake Off launch on September 7th, demonstrating
how Greggs get the jam into jam doughnuts and giving away samples
As well as supporting our Bake Off launch Greggs put collection boxes in all 130 of their West Midland stores and have donated a percentage of all their white chocolate and raspberry cupcakes sold during September. The proceeds from this years’ Bake Off will be used to fund Life Skills and Learning, Skills and Work programmes for our young people to help ensure they can move on successfully, and in light of this aim, Greggs have also offered various work experience and placement opportunities to our young people.
Lucy Hackett Head of Fundraising said: “Thank you so much to everyone who has got involved with this year’s Bake Off which has already raised over £3,500! This is a fun fundraiser that all the family can get involved with and one that really brings people together but there is a serious purpose behind it; to help our young people plan for the future and learn key skills through in-house workshops, placements and work programmes, so they can really move forward in life. We would like to say a special thank you not only to those who have taken the time to bake cakes and organise their own sales, but also to all the companies who supported out launch and Birmingham Cathedral for allowing us access to a prime location to really raise awareness not only of this event but St Basils work with homeless young people as well”.
