The St Basils annual summer walk challenge takes place in a different part of the UK every year. This is to keep it fresh and challenging for every walker. Anyone can go into the countryside and walk for a day, but to take part in the St Basils walk challenge is a very special experience. The next walk is on Saturday 9th June 2012. Team Payment Registration Forms are now available to download form the main St Basils Walk 2012 page. There are 2 circular walks on offer a shorter route at about 13 miles and a longer route at about 26 miles. Both these walk routes start and finish from Malvern St James School in Great Malvern. The Malverns are about a 45 minute drive from central Birmingham and there is a list of over night accommodations at the bottom of this page. The highest elevation on the walk is 397 meters and this is in the first section of the walk. The walk is designed to be challenging but achievable for anyone who doesn’t do much walking, if any at all. So the shorter walk is suitable for all. The longer walk is obviously a little more challenging. Cost: Team entry fee is £125 per team of 3 to 6 people. Team numbers: Teams must contain between 3 to 6 members. Less than 3 walkers constitutes a Health & Safety risk. If there are 7 or more of you then you would have to form 2 or more teams. Starting time: All team are expected to start between 7am and 9am on the morning of the walk. It is up to you what time before 9am you set off, but we recommend the earlier you start the better chance you have of completing the route. Duration: The short walk should take about 5/6 hours. The long walk should take about 10/11 hours. This time includes short stops at the various Check Points and a short lunch break. Equipment: The weather may be changeable so we advise walkers to bring clothing suitable for wet weather. We also recommended a rucksack, a water bottle, a compass and a light change of clothes for the end. Guide and map: We provide every team with a walk guide, which gives you full directions of the route and an Ordnance Survey map section which shows the route after they have registered. Country Code: If you are bringing a dog, it must be kept on a lease at all times whilst crossing farm or rural land. Please close all gates behind you. Please do not drop any litter on your walk. When walking on roads please walk in single file and and on the right hand side of the road. A copy of the country code will be issued to every team with their Walk Guide. Check Points: We provide emergency water and chocolate at the Check Points. There are also toilets indicated in the walk guide. Food: Breakfasts are served from 6.30am until 8.45am and must be purchased with the team entry payment. Baguettes are also available to be picked up at Breakfast and must also be purchased with the team entry payment.
