Army organises team building event at emergency accommodation scheme

On 3rd October 2011 four members of the Shrewsbury Rifles visited Milner Court, St Basils Emergency Accommodation project for young men. Army Captain Curt Gibson, Rifles Recruitment Officer for the South And West gave a talk on what life is like in the Army, admitting "it's not for everyone". He also talked about training and free education opportunities, and the range of roles that are available.

After the talk, his team set up some scenarios outside which the young men would have to work as a team to resolve. In one of the scenario's the young men were asked to remove items from a 'mine field' area, several feet to a 'safe area' using just a rope.

One of the young men said; "I've been looking forward to this for about a month. I been thinking about a career in the army for a while and I've really enjoyed the activities today".

Captain Gibson said the next stage is a 5 day away 'insight' course which aims to give interested individuals more of an idea as to what army life is like before they make any definite decision.

Claire, Night Support Worker at Milner Court said; "One of our young men is interested in a career in the army so he has been asking about this visit for a while, but I think all the young men have loved the activities today and it's really brought them together".
