Aston Villa goals raise funds for St Basils

Aston Villa’s impressive 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Villa Park recently turned out to be not only a good result for The Villains but for St Basils too.

Scoring three goals during the match resulted in £4000 being donated equally between St Basils and Acorns charity. The amount was raised when General Manager of the Circus Casino at Starcity, Dave Scott, announced prior to the game to his Villa hosts that he would donate £1000 for every goal scored during the match and present a further £1000 bonus if the team came away in victory. Dave stated that any proceeds would be split equally between Aston Villa's official charity and also St Basils who are the official charity of Circus Casino owners, Genting Casinos, who are also Aston Villa’s main club sponsor.

Thanks to Villa’s goal scoring stars, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Emile Heskey and Darren Bent, three goals were put past Blackburn keeper Paul Robinson resulting in £3000 being raised for the two charities. The hat trick of goals also sealed the victory and a further £1000 was also donated.

There was a further bonus courtesy of Genting Casino’s sponsorship of Aston Villa. Star City played host to the official launch of the new Villa away strip in July- this event was the first opportunity for fans to see some of their favourite players wearing the new kit. As part of the launch activities, Circus Casino held a poker tournament that raised a further £5100. The total donation to St Basils was therefore £4550.

Dave Scott from Circus Casino presented the cheque to St Basils on the pitch at a match against Wigan Athletic. Following the presentation Dave commented;

“Everyone at Genting Casinos is very impressed with the wonderful work done in the city and beyond by St Basils and so we were delighted we could show them our support in this way.”
