Dogs and walkers invade Bakewell Agricultural Centre last Saturday (21 June 2008). Was it for the Cadbury chocolate bars or a just a great roll in a cow pat that brought so many dogs to the Great St Basils Walk in the Derbyshire Dales?
Along with their owners they joined 647 people taking part. Some teams walked four legged friends along either a 14 or 28 mile route. All this to raise funds for St Basils.
At each control point they panted in, soaked to the skin, covered in mud, tails wagging frantically – and that was just the team leaders! All eager to collect chocolate and head off to plot their way to the next control point through the beautiful, but misty with rain, Derbyshire Dales. Each team posed in the grounds of Chatsworth for their team photo before they became too dishevelled along the way.
It’s a great test of endurance, and character. Along with a few map reading skills, it makes a great team building day for the companies who support us and a great day out for the families who show their support for St Basils each year. Our web site will be having more reports, photos and the full team results later this week.
A massive THANK YOU from St. Basils to all teams who took part, you are all ‘Heroes’ your support this weekend was fantastic. Your support is, as always incredible, and never ceases to amaze us. The weather unfortunately was not as kind as we would have all liked. Yet you all seemed to enjoy the challenge.
We extend our thanks to everyone who has supported us and their four legged friends too. They probably did the course twice!
Your support is always appreciated, you are all wonderful. Do take a rest before you start training for the 2009 Brecon Beacon Walk.
Thank you.
