St Basils invited to represent young people’s views at international conference

Two young people from St Basils who are also in the National Youth Reference Group that St Basils co-ordinates will next month be travelling with staff to Brussels to present young people’s views on preventing youth homelessness to an international audience.

The event organised to coincide with World Habitat Day on 3rd October will be attended by Housing experts from countries across the EU including Italy and Spain and will debate the issues and concerns surrounding the lack of access for young people to the Housing Market. This situation means that nearly 50% of that age group across the EU are still living with at least one parent, which the NYRG will be stressing is a situation policy makers should take seriously as this can cause potentially negative effects on family life, labour market mobility and employment rates.

The National Youth Reference Group is made up of young people aged 16-25 from across England who are homeless or have experienced homelessness. The group exists to assist National and Local Government, Local Authorities and organisations to develop and improve their involvement opportunities for young people. This is their first international assignment.
