The Schools Sculpture Challenge

Welcome to the 2009 St Basils Schools Sculpture Challenge.

Firstly, congratulations to the 2 winning schools and the runners-up of the 2008 challenge: JUNIOR WINNER - Coppice Junior School with their sculpture entitled 'An Englishman's Home is his Castle' and SENIOR WINNER - Swanshurst Senior School with 'Swans'.

SCHOOLS SCULPTURE CHALLENGE 2009

All schools in the region are invited to take part in this free challenge.

The idea is simple:

THINK of a sculpture you would like to make.

COLLECT disused cardboard boxes.

BUILD the sculpture out of the boxes. You can use any materials you wish and you can even paint it, but the emphasis is on recycling and cardboard.

PHOTOGRAPH your sculpture from its 2 best angles with a digital camera.

SUBMIT the 2 digital photographs to the judging panel at SculptureChallenge@StBasils.org.uk

Simple as that!

Please remember to give your work a title, include your school's name and address, and state if you are a Senior or a Junior/Infants school. IF YOU DO NOT INCLUDE THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR SUBMITTED PHOTOGRAPHS WE CANNOT JUDGE THEM.

We will start accepting entries for the 2009 Challenge from 1st January 2009 until February 27th 2009. Please note, we WILL NOT be able to accept any submissions prior to January 1st or after February 27th.

All schools will be informed by email of their sucsess of being Short Listed, or not making the short list, on 16th March 2009.

The Awards Ceromony will take place at the Birmingham Library Theatre on Monday 30th March 2009.

So get your creative thinking caps on.

The 10 short listed schools will be invited to the awards ceremony in Birmingham in April. These results will be published on this page after the ceremony.

This FREE challenge gives St Basils the chance to raise its profile within the schools of this region. To help us continue the work done in preventing youth homelessness we are asking schools to consider supporting us. One of the main reasons visible street homelessness is so low in the West Midlands, compared to all other major UK cities, is a direct result of the contributions made by schools, groups, business and members of the general public, to St Basils. Thank you.
