Happy Eid Mubarak to all!
Eid al-Fitr (Eid) is the festival celebrating the end of Ramadan, it is also known as the feast of breaking the fast. The exact date of Eid varies depending on sightings of the moon, it is usually determined by the first sighting of the crescent moon after sunset. Eid is celebrated by specific prayers, spending time with family, friends and it is at this time where most Muslims give to charity (Zakat). It is also the only day where fasting is forbidden during Ramadan.
There is also another Eid celebration, Eid ul-Adha, on or about 1 September. This marks the end of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca. It is thought of as the holier out of the two Eid celebrations.
We would like to wish everyone celebrating Eid this evening a very happy Eid from all at St Basils.
